Privacy Policy

Last updated: 28 October 2026

This policy explains what personal data Whitebox Software Ltd (“we”, “us”) handles when you use the Sideline Director app for Mac (“the app”) or visit sidelinedirector.com (“the website”), and what your rights are.

The short version

  • The app doesn’t collect personal data. Your videos, projects, team and player names, photos and exports stay on your Mac.
  • The app has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and it doesn’t send anything to us.
  • Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details or your Apple Account.
  • If you email us, we use what you send only to help you.
  • The website sets no cookies. It counts visits with Plausible Analytics, which doesn’t identify you. Our web server keeps standard access logs for up to 52 days.

Who we are

Whitebox Software Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales (company number 13748161). Our registered office is International House, 64 Nile Street, London N1 7SR, United Kingdom. We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy.

For any question about privacy, email support@sidelinedirector.com.

The app

What you put in the app stays on your Mac

Everything you add to or create in the app, including video clips, projects, team names, player names and numbers, player photos, logos, match events and exported videos, is stored on your Mac: in files and folders you choose, and in the app’s own storage on your Mac. We don’t receive any of it, and the app doesn’t send it anywhere. You can delete it at any time by deleting your files, or by removing the app and its data.

The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code, and it doesn’t connect to any server we run.

Log files

The app writes diagnostic log files on your Mac to help us fix problems. They stay on your Mac. If you choose Help > Capture Logs…, the app saves them as a file in a place you pick, and they only reach us if you send that file to us. Logs can include file names and project details, so feel free to look through them before you send them.

Purchases

The app is free to download. The optional Pro upgrade is bought through the Mac App Store, and Apple processes the payment under Apple’s privacy policy. We receive sales reports from Apple that don’t identify you. We never receive your name, your Apple Account or your payment details.

Crash reports

If you have chosen in macOS to share analytics with app developers (System Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements), Apple may share crash reports and basic usage statistics about the app with us. Apple doesn’t tell us who you are, and you can turn this off in the same place.

The website

The website sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and shows no advertising. Everything on it loads from sidelinedirector.com.

Visit statistics

To learn how many people visit and which pages they read, we use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics service run by Plausible Insights OÜ in Estonia. When a page loads, our server passes the page address, the referring page, your IP address and your browser’s user agent on to Plausible. Plausible uses the IP address and user agent only to work out your approximate location and type of device, and to make a visitor identifier that changes every day, so that one visitor isn’t counted twice on the same day. It doesn’t store your IP address or user agent, and the identifier can’t be used to follow you across websites or from one day to the next. We only see totals, such as page views, referring websites, countries and browsers. Plausible processes and stores this data in the EU. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the website is used.

Server logs

Like almost every web server, ours records an access log entry for each request: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the page that linked to it, and your browser’s user agent. We use these logs only to keep the website running and secure, for example to spot and block attacks. They are deleted automatically after 52 days. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website.

The website runs on a server we manage in DigitalOcean’s London data centre, using Ploi to manage the server. DigitalOcean, Ploi and Plausible act as our service providers.

When you contact us

If you email us, we use your email address, your message and anything you attach (such as log files) to answer you and to fix problems you report. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in helping the people who use our software. We keep support emails for as long as we need them to help you, and delete them when they’re no longer needed. Our email is hosted by Namecheap (Private Email).

Sharing

We don’t sell personal data, and we don’t share it with anyone except the service providers named above, or where the law requires us to.

Children

Neither the app nor the website collects personal data from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, and the EU GDPR where it applies, you have the right to ask for access to the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. To use any of these rights, email support@sidelinedirector.com. Data you keep in the app is on your Mac, where you control it and we can’t reach it.

If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or to the data protection authority where you live. We’d appreciate the chance to put things right first, so please contact us too.

Changes to this policy

If what we do with personal data changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If a future version of the app ever collects personal data, we’ll update this policy before that version is released.
